To the East Bay

There was a Berkeley Kite Festival that I had really wanted to attend so we booked a car and planned to spend the entire day in the East Bay.  Also, I wanted to test out my really nice new camera; my very first DSLR actually, (more on that next time).

We called up Tosh and Michiko since it’s been so long since we’ve seen them to join.  It turned out that way too many people went out for the festival so we headed to 4th Street instead…sadly, no kites for me.

It was soon time for lunch so Tosh and Michiko showed us one of their favorite places to get some great Japanese lunch and sushi, Geta Japanese Restaurant in North Oakland, CA.  This place is small but has the best chicken karaage we’ve tasted and is definitely worth the wait.  Plus, the price can’t be beat!

After our delicious lunch, we strolled around different areas between Berkeley and Oakland, had some ice cream, yogurt, and even visited a zen temple created by Yoshi’s Jazz Club/Japanese Restaurant, a very popular jazz club in the Bay Area.

We also drove around the Berkeley hills for some views.

After some time, we parted with Tosh and Michiko and stayed around 4th Street until dinner time.  Azusa had heard about a new izakaya, a food/drinks place mostly specializing in Japanese grill, so we were ready to check it out.  Ippuku was what we’ve been waiting to find in the Bay Area and we can’t wait to go back.  This is seriously some good stuff!

I Will Kill For This French Toast

Written by admin on July 20, 2010 – 11:11 pm -

Recently, we have just had the best French Toast ever!  It was even better than Dottie’s CafeOlea is a super small breakfast/brunch place that always has groups of people waiting outside.  It is a few blocks from our place so we pass by it all the time and we’ve always wanted to try it.  Finally, we know what all the waiting was about.  The French Toast order was so good that I went up to the Chef to thank him.  I have never done that before in my life.  I am now on a quest to find an even better French Toast and I think it will be tough…

Slackers Unite!

Written by admin on July 15, 2010 – 7:05 am -

After about a year of planning to get together, I finally met up with a friend of mine who now lives in the Bay area.  Annie and I had been exchanging emails since we both found out that we live fairly close, well not quite close but close enough!  For convenience, we went to a French restaurant in the neighborhood, Rue Saint Jacques.  The restaurant was located at a great corner spot, but easily missed if you drove by in a hurry.  We all had the 3 course dinner and though we had a nice time, the food wasn’t good enough to go back.  Maybe we’ll try another restaurant with Annie and Jeff in another year!
